Reflective Essay

My view of writing before the term began was not anything professional because I did not know much of the differences between formal and informal writing. My view of writing changed throughout the semester because I understood how deep I needed to get to really dig for what I wanted to get out of my sources and such. My writing was influenced by the examples we did in class of how to write a proper formal sentence and also classmates essays of seeing what to do and what not to do. I would say my Research paper is my best work because I really worked hard on that essay considering that I didn’t know how to write formal until this year. My diagnostic essay would be my weakest work because it was my first piece this semester and I am not proud of it. My strengths as a writer are understanding my sources and trying to get everything I can out of them and catching my grammar and spelling mistakes. Weaknesses of mine would be not using my sources every chance I get and also thinking of main ideas to focus on. I can trace my development as a writer through the pieces i have wrote this term. I can see from my diagnostic essay of how poorly I wrote until my research paper. I really pay attention to my grammar and spelling now and know what punctuation to use. My understanding of audience hasn’t changed since the beginning of the term. My understanding of voice and purpose has changed because I didn’t know them fully. I understand them now because the voice is your own voice in writing or whoever is writing the piece and the purpose is the purpose of the piece of writing and answers the question “Why did they write this?” This class has changed my view on the world because I never thought about what happens in the world but this class has opened my eyes to the world of seeing things like police brutality and animal cruelty, etc.
